Food Solutions:
A Whole Foods Approach to Wellness
On January 20, 2010, the Urban Zen Foundation, in conjunction with the Palette Fund, Amanda Archibald, RD and Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Bryn Sacks, MS will kick off a series of ground-breaking, inspirational workshops focused on educating the Urban Zen community and beyond on navigating and restoring health through food.
The series will consist of six one-day workshops presented over the course of 2010. Each workshop will focus on a specific hot health topic that advocates dietary change as part of the healing plan. Panel discussions led by experts in the field, practical hands-on learning—in the kitchen—and food education activities are a vital part of this life-changing workshop experience.

There has been an explosion of gluten free foods in the marketplace. From frozen foods and baked goods, to condiments and alcohol. Foods labeled gluten free are everywhere! And it’s not just food manufacturers that are riding the gluten free wave—restaurants, cosmetics and hair and skin care companies are a part of this emerging trend.
Join our gluten-free experts, Mary Beth Augustine, R.D., CDN, Registered Dietitian/Certified Nutritionist and Stefanie Bryn Sacks, M.S., Culinary Nutritionist to learn about this new trend from a clinical perspective and its practical life application. There will be lecture, discussion and product sampling from leading manufacturers and local vendors.

The Vegetarian Kitchen
Learn the basics of preparing simple, nutritious and delicious vegetarian meals for your entire family. Gain confidence in the kitchen as you explore the many uses of grains, vegetables and legumes as part of vegetarian lifestyle. We will work on knife skills, technique and address any questions or concerns throughout the class. This hands-on class will end with a sit-down lunch where you will be able to share and enjoy your creations (if you cannot stay for lunch, feel free to bring containers to bring food home).
Healthy Kids ~
Nutrition Education and Cooking for Parents
Learn the basics of keeping a healthy kitchen and preparing simple, nutritious and delicious foods for your kids. Want them to eat healthfully? Well, to do so, you need the knowledge and skills to teach them. Join Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Bryn Sacks, M.S. and contributor to Power Up, Unleash Your Natural Energy, Revitalize Your Health and Feel 10 Years Younger, (published as The Source in hardcover) by Dr. Woodson Merrell and Kathy Merrell for an introduction on how to support your kids health through proper food choices.
Session One:
Address your personal concerns and gain solutions to make change, learn the basics of navigating the grocery store and keeping a healthy kitchen. Through round table discussion and activities Stefanie will help you acquire the knowledge and skills to shift your food lifestyle and that of your family. You will receive a package of resources to take home.
Session Two:
Through hands-on cooking instruction, Stefanie will introduce you to new ingredients and ways to make foods healthy and delicious for the whole family. Menu to be determined by what class wants to learn. You will receive recipes to take home.
